And who exactly is on the USNM's "A" team? |
Not true. The us team must have been who are citizens or can claim nationality. They're are a lot of college and club players who are fantastic but can not qualify for the us national team. |
Politics.
Our system is riddled with politics and pay-to-play from the bottom to the top. It’s ridiculous. Only “certain” kids get pushed from a young age and passed from word of mouth up the chain even when they have fallen off in ability/skill/play/speed. Late developers after age 13/14/15 aren’t looked at again. They won’t be on the top teams or the D1 recruits or in the USYNT camps. Coaches look for “names” over what they see directly in front of them. We also have almost no scouts and the vast majority of coaches don’t know what they are looking at, how to develop players or in it for the long haul. Our system is so broken. And our women got a 30-year start. US women were playing soccer decades before the rest of the world. Soccer was a man’s sport Internationally. Girls weren’t even allowed to play and now these other countries are catching up and will soon surpass the US women too because they have the same sh@t system as the boys. |
Americans focus too much on the physical aspects of a sport, any sport, and not as much on technical ability. Coaches consistently prioritize the development of bulkier, taller, more aggressive kids and tweens, who often don’t grow up to be all that athletic once they’s gone through puberty.
The best players of the games such as the Spaniards, Brazilians, Argentinians etc. were not those |
US soccer team is sub par when you watch how the other mens teams play. There's less than one year to go. How does US improve in such a short amount of time? And what's with the US broadcast commentators? Will there be a new group for World cup? Some of them are just not a good fit for this work. They might have been players for the NTeam but it could be time to find a new few former US soccer players. |
We have been saying this since the 1990s |
As a soccer parent of an ECNL daughter, all the PP are mostly right. Men's US soccer sucks. I give women's US soccer a few more years before it sucks too.
Culturally, soccer is not an American kind of game. We do not have the passion and the understanding for the game to compete the way these other countries can. It's like their national sport in a lot of countries. I mean, if you go to Costa Rica, it's God, family and soccer. Their school fields are pristine. If you go to rich town in NOVA you'd still find shitty fields. It's that kind of respect for the game that carries into the energy and competition of the sport we miss in the US. It's not about Costa Rica being brilliant at the game but more about the esteem they have for the sport which we never will. We play Super Bowls ![]() |
Outside of a few players, it’s debatable whether this was even the B team. |
Agreed. I'd say 5 of the players on this Gold Cup roster might make the World Cup team. Only two may start (Adams who looked very tired in this tournament and Richards.). I like the keeper and Luna as backups. Ream is the only ball playing center back they got. Would keep him as backup too. Aaronson is awful. Not sure why USA or Leeds keep him around. |
We all sound like Wizards fans |
They could of played with their starters instead of their B team, it wasn't about winning the Gold Cup this year it was about the coach seeing what he had in his 2nd string players to see who will make the final WC roster. |
That's what ended up happening but definitely not the original plan but that's what happens when you have at least 9 starters not show up for different reasons. In a perfect world everyone would've showed up and you could start to build on tactics and chemistry since time after the Gold cup is very limited. |
The women’s team has suck for years. Watch Spain play in the Women’s Euros. The girls and women do not watch soccer. |
I witnessed this during try outs this past years kids that are known with Instagram accounts parents with good contacts pass in front of others who actually have similar or better skills. Some don't even try out. Also small players are immediately put on a separated group far from tall athletic players. |
South American youth tall players typically go play as center d or goalies. All the opportunity is given to small technical players to play on the wings, midfield and even forward as headers are not exploited so early. Here in the US the tall kids have all the opportunities your small kid has to work super hard to make the team and get minutes. |
