Where is the other parent? |
We allow screens mostly some tv, occasionally iPad in the summer. |
+1. This is why employers hate remote work. This was not even a question prior to 2020. My kids, including the ones with adhd were all in full time camp with after care or a baby sitter after camp.. |
You didn’t say how old your kid is in the OP, but what you’re asking would be hard for many NT kids too. You need childcare during your working hours. |
10 years old. Not medicated. He does morning swim and 3 hours of active camp.

Not medicated for the summer or not medicated ever? |
If your 10 year old can cope with a mainstream camp then they can learn not to bother you in the afternoon. Close the door and tell them to put on a movie and not bother you. He is 10 not 2. |

I agree—you need full time camp. But it’s late to get into camps so what about an Outschool class to get you an hour?
|
Pick some movies or shows that are not stimulating that he can watch in the afternoon. Getting a trampoline is a great suggestion too |
OP, unfortunately, if there were something "natural" that wasn't TV, medications, or a babysitter, that could help your ADHD kid be fully quiet and independent for an hour or more, you would already know because people would be screaming about it from the rooftops.
Could you take him to the pool and work while he plays/swims? Otherwise, you need to revisit these other ideas that you have already ruled out. TV, medications, more help (spouse??), new camp, new work schedule? Sorry, I know it sucks. I ended up leaving my job. Not for exact same reasons, but similar ones. |
This. Step up and actually be a parent. |
This sounds more like a parenting issue than ADHD. He's fine with camp? Being unmedicated at school? Yet he can't leave you alone for an hour? Yeah, that's a parenting problem. |
+1 million |
Lots of high school and college kids around that can pick up a few hours |
