yeah, but I guess most people don't include the dropouts and failures when they're comparing their kid. Given the upper middle class life that they want their child to have then yes that's very average/target. They're not denigrating their child.

Maybe struggling small schools give tuition discounts, but charge for lots of miscellaneous things. Maybe struggling schools cut back on campus facilities, course offerings, & class sizes. Or maybe they overcharge in order to be able to give a discount to all disguised as a merit scholarship.
