It’s not a “trend” to use fashion to express political beliefs or to protest - it’s always been a thing. And kids like to play around with nail color.

This. Probably lots of women and girls who like to wear nail polish gave themselves themed polish for the 4th. OP's daughter chose polish to express her unhappiness with the current political situation. There are probably a bunch of MAGA women who did patriotic nails to express their support for Trump. In the end it just doesn't really matter.
