I can guess what school you’re coming from.

I can guess where the toxic culture comes from ..many apple trees.

Parent of GCS alumni - We (including my alumni child) had complicated feelings about GCS while there. It was toxic. It was competitive. It was uncomfortably affluent beyond what we imagined when we applied. However, my kid is doing well in college so far so that says something.

How was it toxic? The competition? I’m new next year and didn’t see anything strange (other than clearly families are affluent, but I expect that for a private school) when we visited for admissions, so would love to hear some perspective of what your child experienced there if you’re okay sharing. Would genuinely appreciate the insight

The affluence is part of the toxicity. Biased thinking and stereotyping about families who live in places such as Catonsville, Laurel, and even the "other" Ellicott City zip code. There's an air of condescention around money and even appearance.. And, although not experienced directly, I wouldn't assume GCS is overly welcoming of too many "differences".
