Dear friends, I want to congratulate my Braddock District Supervisor, James Walkinshaw, on winning the party caucus to become the Democratic nominee for Virginia’s 11th Congressional District. The election to fill the 11th District seat will be held on September 9, and I have no doubt that he will prove victorious. I have known Supervisor Walkinshaw for nearly two decades, and he has the experience, knowledge, commitment, and intellect to serve our community well in Congress. Once James goes to Congress, the Braddock District community will then need to elect someone to succeed him as supervisor. I plan to run for that seat. Having lived in the Braddock District since 1987 and raised both of my sons here, I have a profound love for this community and want to ensure that it remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family. I will bring my 30 years of public service and dedication to that mission. The date for the special election for Braddock District Supervisor has not yet been set, and I will share more details about my campaign in the near future. I look forward to earning your support and vote in the weeks to come. Please enjoy the upcoming Independence Day. Respectfully, Ilryong Moon |
Ugh. Was hoping it wasn’t true. He would be very bad at that job if his current school board tenure is any guide. |
I respect him for not voting in favor of the KAA purchase when there were so many unanswered questions. He has my support, at least for the Democratic primary. |
You will note that Rachna also did not support it. Maybe, he did this now to preempt her? Smart move. But, this explains why they did not support it. They plan to run in Braddock. Future votes will likely also affect whether it has a direct benefit to Braddock. |
Let’s get him to come out publicly and admit the boundary changes are a mistake. |
I don't think Braddock schools are as affected by boundary proposals as schools in many other magisterial districts. But I've no doubt that any Republican who runs for Walkinshaw's seat will point to Moon or any other Democrat who gets nominated as complicit in what's turned out to be a disastrous boundary study. The strong suit of Democrats in Fairfax County was always that they stood for good government, and this boundary study is a case study in poor execution and lax oversight. If Braddock can find someone like John Cook to run again, Moon may be toast. |
Maybe not but he represents the entire county right now. And if he isn't advocating for a better, more sane process than what we've seen so far, that tells Braddock area voters what he's like. I've just been very disappointed in him. I thought he would be more of a voice of reason but he's just hiding behind the furniture. |
He's old, he's tired, and he didn't want to antagonize any other Democrats on the School Board because he knew he'd be seeking their endorsements eventually. |
Man as a Braddock constituent I would love a return of representatives like Cook and Megan McLaughlin. |
+1 I find him endearing and I agree with most of his comments. I’m a Braddock district voter so I would definitely back him. |
He just put out his regular newsletter where he didn’t mention his intention to run for this seat at all and barely mentioned the boundary review. He is beyond useless and I deeply regret voting for him. |
Glad he is offering us a midterm (for the SB) opportunity to express our opposition to the boundary review. Who is his opponent going to be? |
I don’t think people would react positively if he mentioned he was running for Walkinshaw’s BOS seat in a newsletter he’s sending out as a SB member. People would say he’s exploiting his current position to campaign for a different office. But he’s not very impressive in his current term on the SB. He speaks up less often, his ability to speak in clear English has declined, and it’s often unclear what point he’s trying to make. I do respect that he didn’t vote in favor of the KAA purchase, but even then he just said there were a lot of unanswered questions without identifying them. I’m tired of local politicians who have legitimate concerns about expenditures but pull their punches because they don’t to offend another member of the same political party. We deserve better from our elected officials. |
In terms of raw intelligence he’s smarter than most of the current School Board members but that’s a low bar. He’s still a coward. |
Since you live in Great Falls, you won’t be eligible to vote in the Braddock election. |
