I see what you did there OP/PP.

wait are you the op ?

OP means Original Poster. There is only one OP per thread.

NP (New Poster) is a poster new to the thread.

PP (Previous Poster) usually is the poster right before your post but that can be clarified by adding an adjective or time of post.

DP (Different Poster) is not the previous poster (PP) but has commented earlier in the thread.

OP - blah blah blah.

You could either BE the OP or you're addressing the OP. I can't believe how many people do this.

Yep wondered about that long ago and now simply overlook it.

Yes we all know that. What we don't understand is whether some of these posters are the OP, or claiming to be the OP, or responding to the OP.

When I write a text message that says

Larlo, please clean your room before you go to practice.

People understand that I am speaking to Larlo.

But some people seem to write OP, blah blah blah when they are in fact the OP. Or they write OP blah blah blah, or OP. blah blah blah when neither of those makes grammatical sense whether they are the OP or are talking to the OP.

So, it makes more sense to either say OP here, or write I am the OP, or to sign it -- OP.

I was responding to the posters who asked if OP was Other Poster.

Dear OP, I agree with you.

You cannot simply announce “OP” and then write as if we now know your identity.

This is a message board that has been around a long time. We are not texting. We are not snapping. We are writing paragraphs with standard written English.

Clarity is a virtue.

This is what a comma is for.

That's pretty clear.

+1 This or “OP here.”

This. “Other Poster” is not a thing.

Oh Please!

If the OP would choose to log in with an identity, at least it would be possible to identify and follow their posts. Maybe their leadership would set a new standard for the rest of us.

Doubt it. This site thrives on anonymity.

You forgot to write NP first.

ANOP --another new other poster
