Does swim tend to be a homophobic culture?

Our summer team definitely has and has had openly gay swimmers, so I'd say it's pretty accepted.

Our summer pool is full of kids from Catholic schools that are backstage racists and homophobes. The ones form the all boys schools are the worst. Junior coaches act like it’s okay to talk to each other and swimmers like they’re in the locker room at their high school where it’s “funny” to make jokes about boys being gay, etc. This is one of the many reasons I think McSL needs to give teams more support and coaching training. These teams coached solely by teenagers are unacceptable.

NP but there is open homophobia at my ds’s non-dmv all boys Catholic school. It’s a very blue area so this was a shock and a disappointment to my DS and me.
