Question about regional admissions officers

Anonymous
When we have done college visits, especially at smaller schools, I’ve had my kids write a thank you email to the AO who lead the info session, and copy in their regional AO, if it’s a different person.

For this reason I feel fortunate that my daughter attends a small private school with a very good relationship with her first choice college.

I don’t think this happens with all colleges, but when CMU came to our state, they invited DD to an event. I’m not sure how they got her name (maybe she had added them to Common App or SCOIR) It was really not convenient, so we did not go. FWIW, she was offered a spot on the priority waitlist but declined as she was in at MIT. Maybe they looked at the event as DI?

It's the same. The admissions officer visits and meets with however many kids show up to the session. That said, the competition at private schools is tougher with a higher number of kids gunning for Ivy plus schools and a higher number of legacies. The number of kids who showed up for one Ivy school session at my kids' suburban high school (class of 350 kids) was ~10 students, which is the same as the number of kids who showed up for my friend's kid's school visit (class of ~70).

We live in a very strong public school district with heavy Asian population so I would guess there would be well more than that showing up out of the class of 500. So for us, our private provides more opportunity than public.
