How to pay for new car - car dealership?

Anonymous
OP here - thanks all, very helpful.

If anyone has done a wire transfer, I'd be interested to here how it went.

We did personal check. About $43k. We filled out applications for a credit check but both our credit is locked and we didn’t have to unlock it for whatever they did (we told them we had locked credit and they said it was fine).

Did they ask you to fill a credit application though so that they can do a credit check

Yes, but they told us that they only check if the personal check is bad check. At the end, they did not check our credit. We never un freeze our credit reports.

I also paid in full by personal check and didn’t have to fill a credit application.

I did a wire transfer, not because they required it but because I don’t have paper checks. It was easy peasy.

Oh but OP one thing to know about wire transfers is it has to be business hours.

I used a cashiers check, in part to prevent hidden charges. I told the dealership that I needed the out the door number as I’d be showing up with that and leaving my checkbook at home so if they forgot something, I wouldn’t be paying it. Sure enough, I showed up and they had some $200 charge and I said “nope” and I still got the car.

Op here - thanks. Did you do the wire day or, or a couple days in advance so it cleared before pick up?

Can I pay with a personal check? If paying with a wire instead, does it have to clear before I can take delivery? Will they demand a cashiers check?

Thanks!

Ask at the dealers place. Each will have their own personal requirements.
