What do you use instead of mulch?

When y'all say ground cover, do you mean things like Liriope? I haaaaaaate liriope.

No, not liriope! Just plants that cover the soil. Grasses/sedges, violets, tiarella, black eyed Susan’s, creeping phlox, mountain mint…really anything that is going to be assertive enough to spread a little and shade out/elbow out weeds.
