Gut check - would this annoy you? Last minute request

Anonymous
Annoying. Hopefully the request is not for some obscure color, at least.

Also, this is why I switched my kid to long pants early on. One less thing to deal with.

And then your kid doesn't get to participate. I'd never do that to my kid. But, I am so glad that we are now done with these last minute requests. My youngest is now moving on to college athletics and I am amazed already at how well they are run and how organized things are.

That would totally annoy me.

My son wears long pants because he hates baseball socks and only wears white crew socks. Fortunately, no travel team or high school coach has ever said one word about it, and judging from the plethora of white crew socks on the teams, plenty of other kids feel the same.

Could be softball.

OP didn’t state the sport, but Under Armor runs a basketball tournament series where teams vie for a remote possibility of getting onto the Under Armor circuit. The catch is that all participants must only wear UA branded gear including shoes and socks. It’s insane.

Yes it would definitely annoy me.

My son was on a travel team once that had several different jerseys and color combinations etc already, but two days before a tournament suddenly added “black pants” (rather than the usual white or gray) into the mix. Which were very hard to find in my son’s size at any local stores, but finally we found some. Then the coach never called for black pants again for the rest of the season 🤷‍♀️

I like how my son’s current team does it- two different jerseys, but same color pants, belt and socks always. Makes things so much easier.

Learn to say no. These last minute decisions cause too many knee-jerk reactions. Get your team manager onboard and push back on last minute ‘good ideas’ like this.

Often these coaches do not have the same busy family dynamic and do not realize the a**pain they are causing w last minute requirements like this.

I hate requests like this but ha be had good luck with using instacart and Dick’s.

Yes it would annoy me and I guarantee that at least one kid won’t have the right color new socks. If the coach screwed up and forgot to tell us all that we seriously needed new socks then coach should buy them for everyone.

Yes annoying and I'm generally one of those "let things roll off your back, not get annoyed" types. DS used to belong on a team like this and it happened so often that we had group texts going where a couple people would run out and grab the socks and everyone else would pay them back (it usually rotated through a few people, DH and I both did it once).

It’s annoying and not okay but unfortunately, common. This has been our experience most years. We’ve also used Instacart for whoever has the item in stock.

If they are asking this late, there is a reason. Just fo itbif you want your kid to play. The coach doesn't want to deal with this requirement either.

Why should the coach's wife do it?

I'm a coach's wife. His team, his responsibility.

Op yes I would be annoyed.

I don’t know what to say. My kid was always call it in the top 1/3 of his club team and we just ignored these types of requests (last minute).

We eventually would order something online just because he always needed socks or pants anyway, but never felt compelled to jump.

Admittedly, only one team was ever like this.
