National honor societies, such as Mu Alpha Theta (Math), Tri M (music),French Honor Society, National Thespian Society (Theater), etc
Medals are honor graduates (above a 4.0 GPA), department awards (1 per department, usually the highest grade in that subject or most involved), and I think military service (enlistment or academy)
Eagle Scout (Boy Scouts) or Gold Star (Girl Scouts) have recognition, a cord with the respective charm
Completion of an academy program gets a cord.
National Honor Society gets a stole that goes to the front
Honor grads also get a separate stole that points in the front and goes to the back
There is a very specific list of what is allowed.
Fcps used to publish it online and send it out to seniors, as well as publishing it in the program. My oldest received that info and had it in their program.
My 2024 did not have the list published in the program.
I know that they had a parent of a girl with lower grades in their class who went all in with her fury that only 4.0 honor grads could be eligible for the honor grad valedictorian speech and selection vote, and that there were cords and swag specifically for honor societies. She went balistic on the class of 24 facebook page and complained all the way to Dr. Reid (her words) to get the honor grad (valedictorian) speech stopped and made open to all students, because it was not fair or equitable to all the kids who did not have honor grad/4.0 status.
I think she had some success with her equity complaint, because although the honor grad speaker still spoke and the honor grads still received their stoles and medals, they did not recognize honor grads as a group or note them with an asteric in the program like they usually do at graduation.
