That’s a fantastic result! Congrats to your daughter. |
| Law school generally gives merit and not need based aid. Most of my classmates in law school paid for law school themselves with student loans. |
| You will need to look at schools where you are above the 75th in both numbers (GPA and LSAT) in order for them to target you for generous merit. Just one of the two will get you a little but not much. |
They still check parent income if you want financial aid. Everyone looks poor at 22-25 yo, but that doesn't mean their parents aren't wealthy. OP's kid, won't get financial aid. He might get merit aid, but will have to go to a lower ranked school to get it. The best school he can get into will likely charge him sticker. Most people just take out loans and shoot for Biglaw to pay off those loans, or use a public interest repayment option. |
This is correct. Going through it for two kids now. But varies by school. Top schools generally do. |
| Some top schools outside of YHS give full or half rides to entice students to forego YHS. Have to score very high on the LSAT and have great undergrad grades, obviously. |
| How old is your kid, considering your ages? |

Aren’t retirement funds excluded from financial aid considerations in general? And home equity?
