My kid got shut out of phd programs in ecology. Getting a masters and reapplying. Bad year for many PhD applicants.

DD and all her friends easily found jobs through alumni network at Penn State. Alumni is the way to go.

This is nonsense. Many kids go to grad school so it’s nearly statistically impossible on its face. Wharton and engineering kids doing great and nursing is 100% employment.

Maybe it’s 40% of CAS kids that aren’t going to grad school and want a job…at most.

What a troll post. Mine is a Penn 25 and he and the majority have jobs or grad school lined up! The parent page and sendoff pages are filled with posted plans and questions on moving to new cities. Grad weekend we heard from many friends and parents about all the jobs and plans. Not one person had nothing lined up

It’s a horrible job market. So many unemployed Feds flooding the market, loss of jobs, etc. These kids are competing against people with loads of experience and multiple degrees.
