Hot take:

Tell me you know nothing about older age groups and showcases without telling me.

Let me fill you in. Good coaches at U15 and up will play bench players in order for them to showcase in front of college coaches. Bad coaches will go to showcases and not play the bench and worry about wins. I am not going to single out those coaches. Those who know, know.

That said, Good coaches will try to win at National Playoffs even if it means some do not see much playing time. Bad coaches will treat Playoffs like a Showcase.

Have a great week and don’t worry much about Showcases as they are almost as meaningless as scrimmages. Oh, and in case you didn’t know, these games are 60 minutes with no halftime, similar to scrimmages.

I agree with equal playing time at showcases. I agree with playing to win in the playoffs.

Don't agree with the last statement. First, other than Friday, games were to minute halves. Second, lots of college coaches at the showcases, playing well and getting thier attention may very well lead to future opportunities... I mean that is the point right?

My bad, I was not there. Just get irritated by parents who think winning or losing Showcase means anything at the older ages.

Wish this was true. We were at a club sponsored showcase tournament. Basically once you get to u15 clubs dont do tournaments anymore its all showcases. Which are tournaments without a winner. Anyway we beat the host clubs super team. Then in the last game they had us scheduled to play their 2nd team (ecrl) for this age group. By halftime we were up by 3. Three minutes after we start playing again they pull the starters and field 3-4 new players that came out of nowhere. Either they were all late or they weren't on the roster. I dont even think the players were the right age. My kids team still ended up beating them. The crazy thing was because this was the host clubs team if we were to complain it wouldn't have mattered. They would have said "no, we didnt cheat". All to try and save some face and not lose at a showcase. So dont think that its just parents watching the score are showcases. Such a pathetic thing for the club to do. Even more pathetic when they still lost even when cheating.

When the tournament is hosted by the club which is like 90 percent, expect there to be rule bending to benefit them.

Unfortunately I've been around youth soccer long enough to know this is true. Ive seen it at clubs you think are the best in the nation. Its crazy watching adults cheat any way they can get away with to win a game for a bunch of girls that cant even drive yet.

This time it was just such blatant cheating that it surprised me. If it was my kid being benched just so the club could cheat fielding older players to win I'd leave the club.
