This. What’s the point stopping 1 or 2 hours short of your destination.

PP Here I feel this way even if you are more than 1 or 2 hours.

What are you going to do, stop at some mediocre highway hotel, grab a quick bite of not great food, not really rest or get a good nights sleep and then get up early to finish the trip? I, and most people I know, would rater just suck it up and get there. And if you have the energey to go for a nice meal, and do some thing touristy, then you have enough energy to keep driving.

We stayed in Amelia Island. Further north than Jacksonville but cute town and beautiful beach.

We typically stop in JAX beach where we can arrive by dinner time, walk on the beach, etc. and have a relaxing evening. We sleep in a bit and can still make it to our Florida destination further south by lunchtime—and everyone is pleasant rather than cranky.

5 hours of additional driving on Day 2 will be too much. Since JAX is relatively easy, I thought we could push through another hour or so.

We cannot make a 15 hour drive miles wise in one day. With multiple stops, it would easily end up being 17+ hours.

OP, you have a very specific criteria that’s not related to places people typically stay when going to the beach in Florida. You know how far you’re willing to drive on day one. You know how far you’d like to drive on day two. Use that as a range and search for clusters of chain hotels along the coast. If there’s more than 2 or 3 grouped closely together, the stop probably has exactly what you’re looking for: dining options and water.

Just fly. Why on earth would someone drive to FLL short of moving there?
