Anyone enjoy gin & tonics?

Nope, no one likes gin and tonics.

Also have you tried a dash of bitters in your G&Ts? Adds that herbal note that some craft gins are so heavy on.

Trader Joe’s has a great bitters. I like gin and pamplemousse lactoix Roth s dash of bitters.

Less sugar than sometimes overly sweet (to me) regular tonic water but not the fake diet flavor of sugar free tonic. The slight elderflower flavor is a perfect match for gin; subtle earl grey tea vibes.

I’m probably late on recommending this. It’s prob been around a while. But it’s great for this weather if you’re a gin drinker.

No. I don’t drink.

Boo. You don’t have to drink alcohol to enjoy tonic. I am sober and having a Diet Tonic mocktail right now.

NP here, that’s true, but I had never heard of/seen that flavor before. I might try, I love g&ts with St. Germain.

Of course. Referring specifically to this elderflower tonic.

Do you have a gin that you like? I don’t want to break the bank but am up for recommendations. Lately I’ve been drinking the Botanist.

We are pretentious about everything but love Tanqueray gin. The green bottle with the red stamp thing. We also stock Hendrick's. Both are excellent. More often than not we use or order Tanqueray. We don’t venture out and try other gin brands because we don’t drink that much, so we just stick with what we like. - OP

I'm with you, OP. I find a solid traditional gin paired with an excellent tonic is the way to go. I've tried some of the artisanal, botanical gins, and they're nice in very small doses. Almost like a cordial. They get cloying fast. But for a drink-drink, Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire with really good tonic are just fine.

Making your own tonic is the key to good G&T's. You are right, most are waaaaay too sugary, and ALL of them never have enough quinine in them.

Original tonic mixtures were about 10 times more quinine but Gov laws reduced that amount, so you have to make your own.

Allegedly carbonated tonic water was the first commercially sold bottled soda? Unsure if that’s just an urban legend.

Remember reading how there was commercial tonic water made like soda pop in the 1850s in England. Seems Ginger Ale made in the US is considered the first "soda pop" though but yeah I'd say tonic in carbonated water with sugar and lime counts as a soda pop and was made around the world since the early 1700s at least.

St. Germain PP here and this is exactly what we do, too. We have Hendricks on hand for others but Tanqueray is the one we actually drink. Same goes for Tito’s and Ketel.
