College freshman home for summer - with no job

Take her to the doctor

Why do you want them to work if they don't need or want the money?

I had to work in the summer because my parents had me contribute at least $2K for my tuition. If I didn't raise the money, I didn't go to school.

Maybe you need to do this if they don't have internal motivation.

+1 I would figure this is a summer of resting. Most of the jobs a college kid can get - retail, restaurants, summer camps - require being on your feet all the time. Maybe they could take a summer class to knock out a general ed requirement?

I agree with this. Why can’t he help around the house? You sound unreasonable.

I agree with the posters who said to let him rest but insist on PT regularly, and he can take a class or two over the summer. At least that way he has SOME structure and will have been productive over summer.

I would agree to no job and plenty of rest, but they need to do their PT and they need to do something around the house.

For the chores, I'd recommend stuff outside, which would make getting up more of a priority. It's cooler earlier in the day.

I had mono my sophomore year in college, and it wiped me out. It can take a really long time to bounce back, and the fatigue is real and can be debilitating.

Mono wiped
Me out for 3 months

OP here. The money they make is their spending money for the school year. Beyond that, I cannot tolerate sitting on the couch all summer binge watching tv.

Good thing you’re not the one recovering from mono then. Let it go and let your kid have downtime to recover. It’s one summer.

Have them register to do door dash. They can pick and choose how much or how long to do it.

I would love for them to help around the house but I am not hiring them as a housekeeper.

Ok - but if you have mono are you really getting up at 1 pm and going to bed at 3 am?

That’s 10 hours of sleep a day. The kid is tired. The kid also just got back from college where they usually stay up late at night on the regular. Do you not remember your college days?

Try again. It’s 14 hours of sleep

It took me 4 months to get over mono.

It’s actually really hard to find a job.

Haven’t go to your local country club with golf and see if he can become a caddy or he can help with the golf carts.

You might actually have to help because he’s sick really really sick.

And by the way, you sound like a nightmare can you talk to your therapist?
