Columbia is known as the unfriendly Ivy. |
I live 7 block away and didn't see anything but I did hear sirens. |
That is likely for the hospital near Columbia. I assume you hear those regularly. For the information of the rest of the readers who don't know that the sound of sirens in NYC is pretty normal, especially near a hospital. |
It’s a warm & welcoming place where people of all races, creeds, nationalities, & sexual orientation live in peaceful, cooperative harmony. Kinda like Mr. Rodgers’ neighborhood, but with a lot more weed. Also, oddly, for some reason people are hard of hearing, & compensate by frequently communicating via bullhorn. |
Sorry OP;m,
I hate when responders respond despite the original post asking for responses from those who know it well/have a kid there. |
NP. Stop gaslighting. No one said Rural Va. BTW love visiting relatives at Va college campuses! |
Not great, it seems! |
Filled with kids from not here! |
Better yet, Hungarian Pastry shop! PS, as for sirens, our windows face Broadway and sirens are constant and always have been. Unrelated to protests. It's a NYC thing that you just get used to (or not, in which case you should probably head to the 'burbs). |
My DC goes to Columbia right now, and we live in metro NY. Completely agree with this statement as well. |
Yeah, this is hardly unique to Columbia. You hear sirens every so often down at NYU (where many of the dorms also face Broadway) and it has had nothing to do with protests for decades. |
Columbia parent - my kids loves it. Frat parties on rooftops. Excursions to museums and restaurants. Diverse student body with really great friends from all over. If your kid loves NYC and likes to study...you can't go wrong. |
Yeah - go to trade school instead. |
