What’s up (or down) with Friendship Heights?

It seems as if the last project update was more than two years ago. I have no idea where it stands.

I do know that a whole lot of alleged YIMBYs in the neighborhood have turned into NIMBYs over the plan.

How can you be a NIMBY over a plan to relocate something 1/2 block away? It's already in your backyard.

Or are the NIMBY's not happy about the new development that will replace it?

Parent company is betting on improved results in a revived location.

If there's only 1 of the 2, instead of both, that's not a big financial add to the community. Just stronger results for the parent corporation.

TJ Maxx has been doing pretty well with the kind of shopper who browses as a pastime and buys more than expected. I do shop at TJ Maxx myself. However, it's pretty downscale. I've never been to any of the rumored high-end TJ Maxxes that have real designer stuff. This isn't going to get FH to where it used to be.

There's Tiffany, Saks, Brooks Brothers and a Porsche showroom in FH. Fancy enough for you?

Don't you find it odd to have a TJ Maxx near a Saks?

I did, but I was looking for more updated info. While I looked up Mazda Gallery info, I couldn’t find info what’s going on with the building were Pottery Barn used to be.

It looks like there's a Trader Joe's coming to the building where Pottery Barn used to be a long time ago (Chevy Chase Pavillion), and then H&M:

I misunderstood your post and I thought H&M was coming back. I miss it and the Old Navy so much. I feel like I'm trekking out to Montgomery Mall now.

No -- my household only buys anything at the TJ Maxx, even though we live nearby.

Don't hold your breath--we were looking at a house in that area 10 years ago and that redevelopment was "imminent" then.

It looks like it's actually in process now. They're moving their hq to Bethesda.

I used to walk to FH all the time pre-covid. I think right now it's in a slump before a bunch of new stuff opens.

Right now, we like to go to Lia's. The bar in the Irish place is nice. The little food hall is okay. I'm looking forward to being able to walk to a Trader Joe's and browsing through the TJ Maxx. There's two grocery stores, a Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh. And there's an urgent care plus a ton of doctor offices in the medical building at 5454 Wisconsin.

It is easy to get to downtown Bethesda from there; either the metro stop or a bus goes up and down Wisconsin from the bus depot.

I think FH is on it's way up, albeit slowly.

I think it's perfect. I go to Tiffany for anniversaries and baby showers. Brooks Brothers for DH's work clothes, Saks for mine. TJ Maxx for the kids and our everyday clothes. It's all in the mix!

It was even wilder when Neiman Marcus used to be there as well.

My #1 complaint about FH is that it is impossible to create a coordinated plan that includes both the DC and MD side and each little area has different owners.

You have the random parking lot behind the new Mazza which has never been used, the massive parking lot for Saks that could be used…now the GEICO plaza that can be redeveloped.

Kind of a crazy amount of space so close in to the city.

Wish a Costco could replace the Geico area which would serve as an anchor to bring in the crowds…of course, that would never happen.

Seems like it is on the upswing. Really hope some good restaurants go in the Mazza building.

Lot going on in the area with Westbard also being developed. Great to have new options all over.
