RIP Rep. Gerry Connolly

I don’t know why he ran again when he knew his diagnosis. He announced a few days after the election.

WTOP was just mentioning Gerry studied to be a roman catholic priest at one point. I never knew that about him!

Connolly was a good man, no doubt. But Democrats are absolutely atrocious at bringing up the next generation of leaders.

Both points are true.

He may have just found out about its return. And, remember, early voting began in September. Ballots were likely printed before that.

I've been following local politics. I think it was expected sooner rather than later. Ugly attacks on one another already: Walkinslaw vs Pekarsky.

Checked Pekarsky's x account prior to the announcement of Connolly passing. She's been attacking "old men" endorsing Walkinslaw.

Pekarsky's tone-deaf comments aged particularly poorly after Connolly’s passing.

She is a loud, yet totally ineffective, cow.

The customary 48 hour period for not criticizing the recently deceased has now expired, per established DCUM standards and practices.

And Republicans are marvelous at choosing leaders, clearly.

unfortunately sounds very similar to another beloved 80 yr old white guy we know
I'd say it was a man problem, but Pelosi is cheering the old guys on and holding the gate closed to the next generation (60 yr olds even)

Victory silences doubters.

Bad and winning beats bad and losing

I never really paid much attention to representatives before, but received his email newsletters, and remember his voice mails announcing his Town Halls during the pandemic. He may have even knocked on our door once. Sad he went so soon. He was a fighter in more ways than one. RIP.

I remember working with him when my boss was on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in the ‘80s, when Gerry was a staffer. A quality guy, through the years. RIP.

People seem to like the guy, but by clinging to power too long he became an avatar of Democratic dysfunction and stained his legacy. Other old Democrats should heed this lesson and step aside.
