Seems easier and likely cheaper to hire a tour than to rent a car for the duration -- if you only need the car for a day or two, why bother with it?
I've driven from Cancun to Campeche and back, including day trips all around the southern Yucatan peninsula, though it's been a long time since that trip, so I'm not necessarily against driving in this area, just doesn't seem like you need the car. |
I'd do this. Any tour group will involve selling you something. Unplanned stops at factories to shop or timeshares. I'd hire a driver that the hotel recommends. |
We did a tour to Chichen Itza that included lunch at a restaurant in Valladolid and a cenote stop. Good itinerary for a day trip. |
