Welcome to the consequences of Brexit. |
+1 I know a ton of Brits who travel to Europe a lot. Sucks for them, too. |
If you think applying for an online visa waiver is too hard then you probably shouldn’t be travelling. You obviously think border control is purely about tourism and not about controlling who does or doesn’t enter a country. It would probably be more ridiculous if the UK didn’t have some sort of Visa or Visa waiver program for Europeans given break up largely driven by migrant and border issues. |
* Brexit (break up was a Freudian typo) |
It was 13 pounds, but it’s now 16 pounds which is roughly $21.25. It was never $13. For a family of four it’s over $100. |
Huh I have 21.25x4= $85, which I think is not "over $100", but it's been a while since I took a math class. |
Oh and the cost when it first started in January was 10 GBP, or about $13 depending on current exchange rate. It was raised to 16 GBP in April. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Travel_Authorisation_(United_Kingdom) |
Thanks, PP here and it was definitely $13 when I applied. Interesting that they've already raised the price. Maybe it was part of the tariff war! |
Ha no, it was because they gave into pressure to exempt transit passengers, which meant the revenue had to be made up from those actually arriving into the UK. |
Yes needed |
It’s new to me. I just went to London a week ago and had to apply. It was easy and I got my approval a few minutes after I clocked submit. |
Not a visa. And Brits have had to get one to come to the US for many years now. |
Yes for UK now. Not yet for EU. |
You DO need it if transferring planes in the UK. https://www.gov.uk/transit-visa |
No, I know these systems are complicated, but if you are only changing planes and will never enter the UK, you do not need an ETA (as a US citizen). https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta#who-does-not-need-an-eta Now, if you are changing planes at say LHR and your final destination is in the UK or Ireland, yes you will need to enter the UK and pay for the ETA |
