OP here - I am worried about someone breaking into his house. There has been theft in cars on the streets of his neighborhood (an upscale community in Potomac). He doesn't want to leave his home and he is still able to drive, care for himself, keep the house together, and take his medications. He doesn't need assisted living yet. It's also possible I will be moving in with him at some point.

I think you and he are in denial about his level of independence. I would not feel comfortable having a loved one live alone given his condition.

He likely should be in Independent living and no longer driving. He might think he can do it, but it's likely not safe

This. Plus cameras are easy to hack and could make it even easier to scare him, watch him and break in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxYIbNmp6CA

My parents have realtors and developers calling because they want to put in higher density housing nearby. The sewer would have to run through their property and they don’t want to give an easement. I feel nervous leaving them alone.. we had an odd phone call where someone was pretending to be my sister and had gotten in a car accident and needed help. I’m glad I was there to calm my mom down. She was panicking.. makes me wonder if it was someone trying to scare them off or something.

Those calls are becoming more common. If you put an obituary online you are giving out a ton of useful information for criminals, even more if there is a funeral on youtube. Even without a video funeral, they can look up who is still alive, search online for presentations or anything that has the person's voice and then use AI to mimic the voice.

Even with things going missing at AL, it's still overall safer than living home alone and scammers are less likely to get the new phone number.
