OP did not conduct the poll.

PEW did.

There's no demonstrable way to measure anything like that. Polls are meaningless.

News media (mainstream news) is one of the most toxic things in modern culture along with "social media".

This isn’t true. I mean none of this post is true. Polling is hard and expensive, and it’s getting harder. Because of the way our mail and phone behaviors have changed, pollsters have to increasingly rely on new methods for sampling and statistical methods for trying to correct for the bias we can see in the sample we get. That’s very hard to do, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth doing. Polling is a fairly young field having to shift away from its foundational methods. It’s not going to be perfect.

The other big problem is that people pay the most attention to political election polling which is very hard to do and expensive, and people who pay for it and do it have a lot of motives. And the elections we care about are so close that people become irrationally angry/suspicious about relatively small polling errors.

But we still hugely rely on polling from Census and places like Pew to know…basically everything we know about Americans as a whole.

I don’t think it’s really fair to call Pew “mainstream media.” Nobody smart, even in MAGAworld, would dismiss Pew polling. Maybe MAGA would do it as performance of fealty, but not if they were actually trying to understand anything. It’s very high quality and important for understanding long term trends and changes.

That's a lot of typing to simply say "polls are worthless" in another way.

It's very name says "It stinks"

I never believe any polls, not even local ones.
It's all just lame propaganda thinly veiled as "polling" and always has an agenda, which is why so much money is invested in it.

Pew did the poll but the poll does not say that trust has declined over the last ten years! It does not say that at all!

Four years of Biden/Harris gaslighting caused this situation.

The hardest problem is finding people that want to answer a poll. People eager to complete polls are just abnormal.

I don't think this is the result of people being less trusting. I think it's the natural outcome of people being less trustworthy.

American-style capitalism encourages cut throat competition and hierarchies, it forgives anti social behavior as ultimately beneficial because it might earn someone more money in the end. This has trickled down from actual capitalists, CEOs and finance bros, to the general populace, and now most people have the attitude that it's okay to be selfish, dishonest, or to hurt someone else at your own expense, because it's the only way to "get ahead." And getting ahead is all that matters in the US because we have decided that as a country and society, we don't owe the less fortunate any assistance, that if someone isn't winning at life, we should just let them rot and die (or deport them, or kick them off Medicaid, or evict them from their housing) because our culture is about rewarding the strong and punishing the weak.

This makes everyone a potential competitor for resources and people who are trying to ensure they win and you lose cannot be trusted.
