This is what we make (no milk; lots of sour cream). We also add in a variety of fresh sauteed mushrooms and a lot of black pepper.

I've had this and it is delicious. I find it's not a bad idea to partially cook the rice with 1/2 liquid to speed up the baking.

Yes, the one time I made this the rice was so hard.
