The reports I've seen are that ICE is in the area (MV on North Cap), but the television van parked out front is likely keeping them from going to the school.

Our school sent out a notice that they would be checking parent IDs at pick up, which I appreciate.

NP. They have been at a handful of DC restaurants (eg, Pupatello and Millie’s) this week asking to see I-9’s. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re wanting or planning to do this at schools for teachers and other staff.

Mundo parent here - ICE never showed but there was media onside at the Cook campus all day yesterday, poised to capture the moment if it happened. I’d say it was (is?) a credible threat, the parents and administration are working in solidarity to stand watch at the school this week.

They went to many restaurants (reddit washingtondc has a long list) and door dash scooter drivers looked particularly panicked all day long.

Same media presence at Mundo Verde today as well. It seems that the media at least is expecting something to be happening.

ICE was at Tubman elementary school yesterday (not sure about today). Tubman is 70% Latino. Word had gotten around, I guess, because my son’s 18 person class only had 7 kids yesterday.

I’m fuming about this. What a terrible, awful thing to do, scare kids away from school.

You'd think they'd be smarter about the PR. I mean, targeting elementary schools?! Any comms team with an OUNCE of sense would think better of that... but I suppose that's the reality of what we're dealing with.

I highly doubt they care about any PR. They probably don’t even care about arresting anybody. It’s all about intimidation and hoping people will self deport.

And Bowser said MPD is not involved at all. That's BS - it was only DC police at Chef Geoff's yesterday. I saw them with my own two eyes.

These audits are stupid. Most of these type places (restaurants) don't keep the I9s on file at the location.

They have payroll/HR companies who handle all that. When I was a restaurant manager, we had to scan over the I9s to Paychex and then mailed the originals to the LLC holder of the restaurant group.

I saw somewhere they need to give three days notice for an audit. They aren’t there to audit they are there to intimidate. To say it’s not safe to go to work, it’s not safe for your kid to go to school.
