We use MLS in McLean and have been very happy with them.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a math and writing tutor in the DC area? Someone familiar with the rigor and curriculum at Maret, GDS, St. Albans, NCS, Sidwell, etc. would be great!

There is a steady stream of NCS girls being tutored for math by the STA faculty. If you are on the Close I'd ask around who they are using now.

Do you have to pay for the STA faculty tutoring?

Yes, and it's a costly. It's frustrating that NCS hasn't staffed a team of solid math teachers.

This is a problem at both NCS and STA.

Really? My sons haven’t complained about their math teachers at STA, but their friends at NCS do come across campus to be tutored after school hours. I don’t think you’d see this in reverse.

Sorry, that's petitmaisoncolumbia@gmail.com

Why does he need you to find him jobs?

Well, LSE is about as easy an admit as Maryland for Economics, so there’s another data point.

Goddamn. That’s a really nice thing to say about “spectrum” people. I know this might shock you, but there are educators and tutors on the spectrum who are excellent. As in every other field.

Your kid should be aware you are not good at advertising for them.

I tutor. I’m not crusty. I’m not on the spectrum.

What an odd thing to say.

I think you quoted the wrong one here. I assume you are responding to the parent trying to advertise on behalf of her child and in doing so made a rude and utterly inappropriate reference to tutors on the spectrum.

+1

They are doing their child no favors. I can only hope the kid has a better attitude than pp, but there are plenty of other options so I’m not going to bother finding out.

Then your sons have been lucky enough to avoid the bad ones or they’re not on the honors track. MS math has sucked since the experienced teachers left three years ago, Upper School math has some problematic teachers and some good ones. It’s the good ones who are doing the tutoring, obvi.

Definitely honors track and only attended high school. But I realize that the teaching may vary by instructor. Yes, my sons must have gotten lucky,
