Sounds like a great Counselor willing to help the students. Our MS counselor just reiterated what the website said - Slots are full

You can do that yourself, all the counselor needs to do is send you a form. They should do that if you ask. We liked that one bc it's entirely asynchronous.

I don’t think that is true for FCPS. You need approval from someone in FCPS to sign up for virtual VA because it is an exception to the norm of the FCPS class they want people to take as the default.

Whatever you do DOCUMENT it. We got something approved by our base MS and then later ran into issues with the TJ counselor questioning it. But we had already sent her the base school approval and gotten her to ok it before summer (she forgot though later). Keep you emails.

We are at Langley High, and the counselor recommended Excel high school- virtual and fully asynchronous for summer PE. You tell them you want this, they send you a form indicating the school, and that was it for us. Pretty painless...

Hi! Is this PE 9 or PE 10 from Excel?

Here is what the counselor said:

"If he is interested in an asynchronous course, you will need to take the course outside FCPS with a virtual high school that is approved by the Virginia Council on Private Education (VCPE). A popular VCPE-approved virtual school among Langley families is Excel High School. Their “Health & Fitness” course, both Sem A and Sem B, can be utilized for the FCPS Health/PE 9 course. I’ve attached an updated form for you to use if you want to utilize Excel HS. Also, registration and any questions you have about the course is entirely between you and them – FCPS has nothing to do with the course, other than taking in the credit once completed."

Really appreciate your information!!
Seems like it's not an alternate option for FCPS HPE10.

DD did a different asynchronous class for PE9. We couldn’t t find anything that would work for PE10 that way though due to driver ed.

Hello, does this differ from high school to high school? DS is thinking of accepting TJ admission and we have an international trip planned around the FCPS and Virtual VA dates.

Would Excel be better than Virtual Virginia? Thanks!

I can only speak for myself, and we chose Excel because it is fully asynchronous. We have a busy summer and don't want to be held to a schedule. DS is already enrolled and knocked out 70% of the class.

This is great to know. Is he taking it for a letter grade or are you able to take it as Pass/Fail?
Anonymous
I believe it is pass/fail.

Don’t kids have to do CPr 1 day in person? And for FCpS think kids can miss couple days and still be ok
Anonymous
Do cameras have to be on when doing summer PE through FCPS. Maybe doesn’t matter but not sure I want my kid logging in to class when we are not at house with camera on- but maybe they is reason to do asynchronous.

I will say, I have been very impressed with almost a private sector-level customer service at Langley High.

Hi, does the Excel school include CPR? What are you doing for the CPR requirement?

This is so helpful, thank you! Trying to get PE out of the way for upcoming TJ freshman but have conflicts with the daily zoom portion of FCPS PE.

Interesting -- does the kid get 2 electives in 9th grade for knocking out PE during the summer?
Anonymous
I am PP, and answering my own question -- Yes, the kid will get 2 electives in that case.
