What’s silly about a band of diamonds as opposed to say one huge rock? I think that looks more tacky..

This is exactly why the half eternities are so annoying, they never work for me, but I have small fingers (size 5). I do have a trilogy that's not moving, but the diamonds are almost 3 ct total.
The price that OP was quoted is absurd. Look at the real real for one, they have so many.

I don't wear mine anymore because I hate the sensation of the diamonds rubbing against my fingers.

Yours is a poor quality setting. When set right, you should not feel them at all. Look for channel setting in brushed platinum.
