Copenhagen

The Viking museum is great. In the summer you can get tickets to sail one of their replica ships in the bay— my kids LOVED it.

Mine are early elementary, so YMMv, but they also liked getting ice cream in Nyhavn and then walking to the place nearby with trampolines in the sidewalk; the glyptokret (I’m probably misremembering)— the museum right near tivoli with sculptures— was so beautiful; we went to tivoli twice (partial days both times); we did a canal tour that was a great way to see the city, and Rosenberg castle. We skipped amelianberg

I absolutely love Copenhagen. It is so easy to get around and there's so much to do. I wouldn't go to the Viking Ship Museum since you have so little time in Copenhagen as it is a trek out of the city. There's SO much to do. I actually have been to Copenhagen several times now and the first time was on a 23 hour layover....we fell in love with Copenhagen and now I'm planning on trying to go maybe all next summer with my kids

I'm seeing cheap flights that have a layover in Copenhagen and I started browsing on things to do in Copenhagen and am hooked. Looks like such a calm relaxing place.

And they have the Tivoli gardens which kids would love.

Would 1.5 days be enough if we wanted to see Amalienborg palace+marble church, Rosenborg castle, Round tower, walk around Stroget, Nyhavn.
1 day for Tivoli Gardens

Flight would arrive at 11:55am. Departs at 7:15am next day.

I was thinking of extending it by 2 days. Depart at 7:15am+2

Give yourself a little extra time if you will be jet lagged, or if your children might appreciate a slower pace. Also consider one of the boat tour around Nyhavn. The most interesting thing for us on arrival was the morning "bicycle" rush hour.

Is Copenhagen a nice trip for a solo woman in October, for 1 week? Is it safe for traveling alone?

I'll be a new empty nester and would like to start exploring the world a bit more.

Viking ship museum has lots for kids, if your kids have any interest in Vikings or boats. It’s an easy train ride from CPH, in theory.
Roskilde is also a nice small town.

Check the train schedule on dab.dk or the app
There’s currently rail line work which can add time to your trip.

A togbus (train bus) shuttles you between the train stations where there’s track work , but it does add a little time.

200 kroner gets an adult 24 hours of transportation that includes Copenhagen and surrounding areas (including yo Roskilde and other towns). If you are active tourists, this can pay off. Otherwise buy as you go. Kids ride for less.

Easy and comfortable. Go for it.

Should have added, venture beyond the city, too.

Do we need a whole day for Tivoli if kids will be doing the rides?
No. You can go late afternoon and end the day there.
