My MS student was impressed with her and with her interest in student welfare. |
And? Discussion only. No vote. |
It wasn't an issue to be voted on. The point was, he stood up for current students and raised important concerns the other board members weren't thinking about. |
Which anyone can do without getting paid $30K. |
The SMOB is unpaid, but they receive a $25K college scholarship. |
That is a payment. Plus expense account for trips, meals and perks. |
You seem to have some sort of vendetta against SMOBs. What happened to you, PP? |
+100. What do you have against a student representing the student voices on the BOE? |
When will actual students have a voice on the BOE? |
The SMOBs are all actual students. |
Name one SMOB that was ever on the BOE that was an average student that went off to Montgomery College like the average MCPS graduate. You can’t. Those students are not allowed to run. |
Of course they're allowed to run. "Students who are residents of Montgomery County, are regularly enrolled in a Montgomery County public school, and are either sophomores or juniors are eligible to run for SMOB. Filing forms are available through local student government organizations, the Student Leadership Unit, or on the Web. Candidates may nominate themselves or be nominated by others." https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/student-leadership/smob/election-process/ |
Do you really think the common student will have the necessary amount of intelligence needed to make the decisions and go through with processes that a SMOB will have to do? The idea seems kinda like just giving the job to the intern with little to no experience |
Their names are NEVER on the ballot. NEVER. Any average student is excluded by the club that selects the SMOB. |
Actually, YES! There is no education or grade requirement for ANY OF OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS. Why should the SMOB be restricted? Easy answer: So they are controlled by the MCPS administrators that run the SMOB position. |
