PTA fundraisers in FCPS

I hate raising funds for schools with a budget of over two billion dollars.

The size of the school budget is irrelevant. Do you know how many kids they have to educate? Do you realize Fairfax County teachers haven't had a raise in two years and that class sizes are increasing? I hate fund raisers, too, but I appreciate the PTA for taking it on and using funds to buy such things as Smartboards for all the classrooms.

Some schools in Fairfax County have actually gotten away from selling stuff and are going to just asking for donations, because of those reasons (uncomforatble having kids selling, etc.). One school made much more money this way too. Read more here:

They did this this year at Hunters Woods. I was happy to fork over the $70.

Flint Hill ES in Vienna is also doing an armchair fundraiser. I couldn't be happier! Our school suggested $50/child.

Wow! You guys get off cheap. At Haycock, it's $120.

wonder if fewer people will pay it when it gets that high? Law of diminishing returns and all that. (not that $120 is a hefty sum for people in that area ).

Yeah, you gotta be careful about suggested amounts. DC's school did that a while back and I ended up being one of the few parents who gave because most people found the amount suggested offensive. I think it's a great idea if you can determine that amount where the majority would happily give to avoid the endless fundraisers.
