But whey do you need a Honda Mechanic? Right now I am driving an old GMC SUV to work. I go to Jiffy Lube for oil changes and Mr. Tire for brakes and tires. I dont have anything special going on that I need a GMC expert I also own a Hyundai, same thing. What is so special about a Honda it needs a special mechanic? I mean years ago I had a 35 year old classic Mercedes Convertible I needed a special mechanic. But I time I also had a Camry. That did not need a special mechanic. |

No, you don’t need a special Honda mechanic to work on them. They are common cars and (from what I’ve been told) easy to work on. You can certainly take them to those all-purpose shops to get work done. As a long time Honda owner, I remember when Honda maintainance done by shops not familiar with them could cause problems. Fluids were finicky, especially the power steering and transmission fluids…if you didn’t use Honda fluids problems could happen. Plus all purpose shops did a fluid flush (like they would do on other cars) that would wreak havoc because Honda recommends “drain and refill” not a flush. These are little things Honda specialists knew but all purpose shops didn’t. Granted this was long in the past and I’m sure (hope!) things are better now but I still want a Honda shop working on my Honda because they see a lot of them and have a lot of experience on them. My brother owns a Jeep and he feels same way about Jeep mechanic. Sure anyone can do simple maintenance, but there is a comfort level of having someone who is very familiar with your car. |

+10000 Japanese cars need mechanics familiar with japanese cars furthermore "regular" mechanics don't even bother using honda fluids, seals, batteries and a few parts that 100% should be honda brand. They give zero fs. They often don't know what common honda issues are and instead start randomly "fixing" things that aren't even broke. |

Not the person who posted this. But I am curious, in college had a Dodge Dart, later a Ford Taurus and then a Toyota Camry. Like the honda they are bullet proof cars. other than brakes, tires, oil changes, batteries I never fixed anything. So I could not imagine anyone specializing in fixing Camry's or a Ford Taurus. That said I also owned a Fiat and a older Mercedes and I need specialized mechanics. Kinda like when Saturn was around, a very simple and very reliable easy to fix basic car. No one specialized in fixing them. They are not Porsches or Jaguars. A 18 year old with a Monkey Wrench could fit it. Same goes for Honda and Toyota. |
