They con of attending Tubman is it’s a feeder school for CHEC, but is the only elementary school that does not do language immersion. People on this site love Deal though so no matter how good other schools may be or the teaching may be, that is what they recommend. Even though they also complain about how crowded it is or how their child hasn’t had a teacher in months (only subs).

If you want to know about a school, you should go check it out in person and actually speak to parents at the school. Don’t ask on DCUM, you will get nothing but conflicting information. Fun to read, but not really helpful.

Tell me more about this. What makes her so amazing? Have test scores gone up? Attendance? Staff retention? How many teachers quit mid year this year? Are kids no longer cussing out teachers with racial slurs and walking out of the room when asked to do work?

Yes, test scores have gone up, staff retention is great, attendance is pretty good (especially with the temp location taken into account). Who do you know is cussing out teachers and walking out of rooms? Is that something you “heard” or do you know the person that did such a thing? My kid is challenged, has interesting activities, and comes home happy most days. The students are friendly and are excited about sharing their work on the days they have portfolio days and awards. I don’t know what else to tell you beyond visit the school if you are actually interested, but don’t bad mouth it if you don’t have any real knowledge of what goes on there.

I'll bite, though you seem to have some preconceived notions about what the school is like but at the same time being ignorant about it. She has been there for years. 10 or so? Staff retention is great. My kids have been with the school for 4 years now, and I know so many of the staff/teachers just by virtue of having a kid there. All of my kids' teachers have been wonderful. The teachers seem to stay year after year after year; one kinder teacher has been there so long one of her former students is a kinder teacher as well. I haven't heard anything negative about the principal since my kids have gone there. She's a great advocate for the school, and the teachers have been working so hard to try to get DCPS to restore the funding cuts that have been threatened for the next fiscal year.

And yes, test scores are going up. Tubman is a wonderful school. It will have a beautiful building in another year, and hopefully it will have a new middle school feeder option (Euclid) in the coming years.

Tubman is not currently slated to be one of the geographic feeders to the new Euclid MS, but I do see it referenced as a programmatic feeder (along with the other geographic feeders to CHEC) on the DCPS school planning website. What program would feed to Euclid rather than CHEC?

It will probably still feed to the new middle school as an option for those who do not want immersion.
