should I switch from a high paying/high stress job to low stress job?

No, but you can switch from a high paying/high stress job to low paying/high stress job job, plenty of those.

Not sure what "quasi-government" means - anything government or government-adjacent is very uncertain right now, so I'd hold off on that particular transition.

Don’t assume that “low stress job” is truly much less than you are experiencing! I’m in a so called low stress government contracting job (mommy-tracked) and it was for awhile but it’s NOT low stress when I work for toxic government staff who generally dislike contractors and look for any excuse to fire us, or when I work on an underbid contract task with unrealistic deadlines (forcing my team to work uncompensated overtime), or when I work with slackers. None of the above equates to low stress even when I do work more realistic hours.

Take time to find a job that gives you more control and consider working for yourself instead.

Right now, given where the economy is, the decision might be made for you. In the meantime, slog it out for a while. I don't think stable jobs will be easy to come by for a while.

People in low paying jobs are a lot meaner too.
