As someone who lives in NC and has been to Charlotte numerous times, +1 to everyone who is saying it is boring. DH calls it an "overgrown office park" and he's not wrong. That said, I've had a great meal at Coquette and Optimist Hall, while more-or-less your basic food hall, has some good options too.
The Ford Building in Camp North End sometimes hosts cool events, like the immersive Van Gogh that was there a few years ago, and it's worth checking to see if the Spectrum Center has any fun concerts or games while you are there. Winston-Salem is only about an hour away and is a nice day trip - recommend Reynolda and if you have kids with you, Old Salem. Sage and Salt is good for dinner. Also within an hour is High Point, which is an absolute hole but is the furniture capital of the world. If you're in the market for literally anything for your house, definitely visit Furnitureland South, the world's largest furniture store. It is amazing (cheesy name aside, they carry a lot of high end brands) and they will white glove deliver anywhere in the US. |
