| One option is that you can reach out to the regional supervisors if you don’t feel like a principal is doing the right thing. I've had to do that on two occasions, and things were resolved immediately. |
| Or the teacher just denied her a bathroom request to adjust her hijab and told her to do it in the classroom and that’s what this is all about. Since there is NO detail given it’s impossible to say. Everyone calling for the teacher’s head on a platter needs to chill out unless you have more facts. This reactionary stuff gets people killed. |
| Sorry, I’m going to pick the student over the staff member, here, especially since (central) MCPS has done something already about the latter, which suggests that something indeed happened. Those are the facts. |
In MoCo? It's the perfect story for this county! |
It's not stopping your from speculating that it was the 8-year old's fault somehow. When it comes to young kids, I will always err on the side of caution and investigate to the highest possible extent rather than just believe the teacher at their word.

| The media tends to downplay Islamophobic incidents and give a ton of press to antisemitic incidents. Not surprising that this incident hasn’t been picked up by the mainstream press |
100% |
EXACTLY. And some posters on this thread are clearly Islamophobic. |
| The resolution falls woefully short. The teacher should NOT have access to a teaching license. This is not a fair resolution for this child and her family. Administration that failed to act should be terminated too. |
Based on allegations? |

You people are crazy! |
Allegations can be substantiated and it looks like they were in this case. |
You wouldn’t be saying that if this was antisemitism. Who cares about Islamophobia, right? The county put teaches on leave for months because they support human rights. Now that was really crazy. |

I don't know. As an elementary teacher, I can tell you that all kinds of things are said. We had a student claim a teacher choked him this year. The teacher did nothing of the sort and luckily there were 2 other teachers in the room at the time, but the teacher still had to go through the disciplinary process and was on leave for a week during the investigation. The teacher was humiliated, and the case was found to be completely unfounded- just a student trying to be "funny."
We have had other situations as well where there is an investigation, but it turns out that it was just a misunderstanding or miscommunication. I am not doubting the 8-year-old, but as a teacher and a parent, I know how often things are misunderstood or something goes home and is blown WAY out of proportion. Again, this is not to say this is what happened here, but I have been around long enough to know that you need to wait for the investigation. If this did happen, I hope appropriate education will happen. |
