Yes, a recruited athlete. Why not a good place for sporty types?

Wes has a strong contingent of progressives / blue-haired weirdos who despise sporty types.

Similar, maybe even more pronounced, vibe at Oberlin College in Ohio. Serious divide between athletes and non-athletes.

In the 90s it was very arty and progressive. That identity is still there to some extent, but there have been massive changes recently. This article is very informative: https://slate.com/culture/2017/12/wesleyan-university-football-is-good-business.html

Not sure if this is true. Wesleyans sports fields are center of campus.

We toured last summer and it was a bizarre mix of extremely artsy and extremely frat bro. I think what this article describes is probably still accurate?

Op. I kind of think this could work for my dc who is an athlete with a semi secret creative side. Might be nice for him to be around creative kids also

Huh? Extremely frat bro - really? I thought the only frat there was some sort of literary club or something like that.

My dc goes there and my impression is that all are welcome which makes it quite interesting.

Our DD is super sporty, and she loved Davidson.

Kids there are diverse in terms of their interests/appearance/vibe - everything from artsy/crunchy to super sporty/fratty. And it seemed so well integrated, socially. Just hanging out at the student center, we saw everyone mixing in ways that we had not expected.

The location is also fabulous. 30 minutes from the Charlotte airport, a mile walk to Lake Norman, plus the school owns its own lakefront area that’s only a 15 minute drive from campus. It’s a special place!!
