Moving to Area with 14 Year Old Middle Distance Swimmer

Buy a house in Arlington or McLean and do NCAP MU. Once you have a school you can decide which summer swim club to join based on where his friends are.

They will not specialize your kid like NCAP.

And I think it would be better to know what kid of cuts does your kid make currently.

2 back is probably his best event at 1:53, goes 1:45 in 2 free and 1:56 in 2 fly. He is currently a freshman. AAC does appear to have some strong swimmers in 15/16 age group.

So there are only like 10 boys in the country with those kinds of times. The only club that is going to be able to work with that kind of talent would be NCAP and honestly it would be a disservice to your son to be at any other club in this area. AAC has one strong boy in the 15-16 range and his parent is his coach which I think explains a lot of his success. You would not get the same treatment.

Did you misspell county with country?

Per USA swimming data: This year there are only 41 14 y/o boys with USA swimming times under 1:54 in the 200 back, 1 from PVS.

41 = 4x10+1. Huge difference.

Just in case you can't count, 41 is one more than 4 times 10.

https://swimstandards.com/rankings?page=1 There are 4 kids in PV that go under 1:54 (1 went 1:49 at Shamrock which isn't included). 1:54 is barely in the top 50 - Times are getting faster. 1:54 for a 14 year old 2 back is an excellent time but not top close to top 10. You need to be about 1:50 to be top 10.

That's creepy. Don't do that.

If he’s a freshman, isn’t he almost 15? Not to discount the times which are very fast, but he doesn’t need a super fast 13-14 group as he should be about to age into the senior level and there are plenty of area teams with fast senior level cohorts.

All those super fast 13-14s will also be moving up groups and that is the cohort he would be training with for the next 4 years.

A 1:53 200BK would have put him in 2nd place at the recent PVS Champs. 1st place was a 1:52 mid and swims for OCCS. The next three swimmers were NCAP but MM doesn’t breakout which practice location. I’m sure there are ways to fight that out though.
