Montgomery County should amend its compulsory schooling law to students up to age 16

It was not done for educational reasons it was done to keep teens off the streets. Basically turned some schools into day cares where students just walk around the school all day. Schools don’t know what to do with these kids.

We have trade schools. The BOE last year cut one - one of the two automotive ones - which is a really good program (and always looking for car donations - we donated ours and was given a tour).

They have a Fire rescue program at one of the high schools or through a HS. If the students don't want traditional classroom, can't they train to be an Emergency medical service staff?

The trades is not a dumping ground for illiterates and drop outs. They are typically highly technical professions with a lot of required training and exams.

This. Trade students need strong technical skills and often strong science and math skills. You won’t be successful if you are smoking weed all day and barely show up to class

If all you can do is fling insults, you don’t seem too smart yourself. Unfortunately some of these kids remain dumb and ignorant (in your words) despite graduating from high school because they literally never go to class or they show up for the last week of class. Teachers are pressured to pass them or they are placed in online classes where 2-4 hours of work will get you a full year’s credit in the specific subject.

MOCO actually offers a lot of trade options, compared to the southern suburbs we moved from, which offered very little.

I do think that kids 16+ who don't want to be there and have no interest in ever going to college need to be funnelled to a trade option or a ged and a job option.
