I know of two different boys who got into Stanford. Interestingly, they had almost exactly parallel trajectories. Both Asian with near perfect SAT and GPA, along with generic overachiever ECs like olympiads alongside inauthentic, parent-driven "nonprofits" and research. Both are pretty cocky (to the point of most people finding them obnoxious--I can't imagine they would interview well). Both were humbled when they were rejected or waitlisted by literally every Ivy and, for one of them, WL at Georgetown. Both families were in a panic. BUT then on Friday, they were both accepted by Stanford.
No idea if this is a coincidence how similar these two are, but it suggests maybe Ivies have seen enough of the parent-packaged ECs, but Stanford still responds to that sort of kid? |

Stanford is the university that is most susceptible to packaging. A counselor we interviewed was promising to return 50% of fees if they are not able to get an admit to Stanford. But fees pretty steep and for 4 years, onus on us to maintain GPA. Otherwise they are extremely confident of an admit. No such thing for other HYPSM's. Seemingly they got the essay part down really well for Stanford.

When you say “fees,” how much are we talking about? |

I'm sorry. I can't help but think you mean that the onus is on YOUR CHILD to maintain the GPA. Unless you're still doing Johnny's homework, PP? |
Congratulations! I am so happy for your family. Best of luck to your child!

Interesting. I met 15 REA admits and their families in January and literally none fit the generic profile you describe. |
| One kid from my childs public FCPS high school in neuroscience. He is Indian. That is all I have heard of so far. |
| Double legacy FCPS, Indian male. |

Nobody admitted from DC’s school, last year there was one admit.
|
Make that 2 in RD, for a total of 4 from DC’s high school! The latest admit has a similar profile to the first two. |
4 from one DC private school??? |
Not in DC |
You call your senior in high school “kiddo”? Good grief. |
