Not how it works. Bribery is thankfully rare.

My guess is the police just screwed up, possibly seeing "official" documents and not understanding the situation. Police leadership should be briefing police at roll call every day to call management for further clarification. And police should have their attorneys up to speed on everything that's going on.

Knowing MPD, they probably have not thought this through

Or Bowser gave them orders to allow DOGE entry wherever they want to go because she's caved to the Trump admin in some misguided belief they will save her/DC.

We own Bowser. She went to Mar a Lago, bowed, and kissed the ring. She is aligned with Trump, so don't expect any opposition from her to the King.

The US Institute of Peace, was the scene of a dramatic standoff between a Department of Government Efficiency team and Institute members on Monday. DC police attended the scene after being contacted both by USIP staff and the DOGE team on site.

Former diplomat and President and CEO OF USIP George Moose told NPR "DC police showed up at my office and said it is time for you to go." USIP is a think tank funded by Congress.

NPR spoke to him on the steps of the Institute just across from the State Department during the day long standoff on Monday.

Some members of DOGE, as the Elon Musk efficiency team is known, tried several times to get inside to install a new president.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly, posted on X Monday evening, along with a screenshot of a resolution from USIP's three remaining board members appointing Kenneth Jackson USIP's acting president on March 14.

Moose was fired last week along with most of the board members. According to USIP's website, the bipartisan board of directors is composed of 12 members plus four "ex-officio" members including the US Secretaries of State and Defense.

But Moose and the USIP is challenging the administration in court. He was held up in his office for some time on Monday before being escorted out by police. Moose called it a sad day.

(f) Removal from office

A member of the Board appointed under subsection (b)(4) may be removed by the President—

(1) in consultation with the Board, for conviction of a felony, malfeasance in office, persistent neglect of duties, or inability to discharge duties;

Seems legit.

Oh? Do tell us what conviction of a felony, malfeasance in office, persistent neglect of duties, or inability to discharge duties was evidenced by USIP management.

Customs and Border Patrol was used as security the day they let AID employees into their building to get their personal stuff.

It's all effed up.

Failed to follow an executive order: persistent neglect of duties. They explicitly thumbed their nose. FAFO.

+1 If the only thing that matters are Trump's executive orders, and not Congressional allocations for independent agencies and judicial actions that safeguard its governance processes, then just declare the US an authoritarian regime and be done with it.

Elon Musk’s cost-cutting team, known as DOGE, has forced its way into the offices of the U.S. Institute of Peace with the help of Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department, a lawyer for the institute said.

“DOGE just came into the building — they’re inside the building — they’re bringing the F.B.I. and brought a bunch of D.C. police,” said Sophia Lin, a lawyer with the firm Picard Kentz and Rowe. She was speaking on the phone from the street outside the institute’s building after she, her co-counsel and the institute’s chief security officer were forced out, she said.

Lin said that the U.S. Institute for Peace called the D.C. police on the Musk team members in an effort to stop them from trespassing because the institute has control of its own building and the land it sits on. But instead, the D.C. police allowed them to enter and kicked out the institute’s officials.

Before the D.C. police arrived, the Musk team had tried for hours to enter the building. They attempted to enter on Friday, but that effort was unsuccessful.

Hello? Don’t you guys watch youtube police cams? This is exactly what happens every time. Does not matter who called and why.

That lawyer sounds like she was freaking out on the phone. They are bringing the Fbi ?’ what the? Why was she even calling ???

If Ms Lin had read the paper she would have saved herself some trouble

Are you suggesting that the executive branch is separate from the executive branch?

The USIP was a non-profit that supported peacebuilding efforts around the world and participated in coalition efforts to support human right defenders. They planned events and did all the things any other policy / peace focused non-profit does.

The main way they were different was that they did get government money, which made them unique among DC peace-focused NGOs.

Also, they had that beautiful building on the mall, which was a visual representation of peace on a national mall which primarily celebrates veterans and war.
