There's also a thread about the Careless People book on the entertainment forum that was started last week.

| i bought it yesterday and am devouring it. It's compelling and very well written. |
You can also buy from Barnes & Noble. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/careless-people-sarah-wynn-williams/1147093187 |
Me to. My favorite line c the book is that Lean In s a book to make women feel bad (bc that’s how it made me feel for sure). I LOVED careless people. If anyone on this thread has not read it yet - it’s a must read. I read a ton. It’s great. I promise. |
| I know some of the people in this book. I wasn't sure that I wanted to read it, but now I might be changing my mind. MCPL will probably have it for me by late August if I put a hold in now... |
I got it through MCPL surprisingly quickly and already returned it. Hopefully you get it too. It was a surprisingly good read. I came for the bold faced names, but it's actually an interesting book about the dangers of new technology getting manipulated in ways the people who invent it don't really understand (and how they choose to ignore it when they do understand). |
I’m enjoying it and liking that I saw through the Lean In BS when the book came out. Sandberg does not come off as looking good. |
| It’s available on Hoopla with no wait! I just started listening to it. The shark attack memory toward beginning was pretty gruesome. If I was reading it I definitely would have skimmed that. |
| Sounds interesting! My H has worked for a valley tech company in the past and is working for a different one now, so I enjoy these kind of books. I'm #981 on the DCPL wait list...so maybe this summer? LOL. Not sure I want to read it that bad to buy it... |
I'd be interested to hear your perspective on the people you know. You don't have to name names, of course. I'm reading it now and the author seems to try to be objective. Praising people in certain places and leveling criticism in others. Nobody is painted as all good or all bad (so far, I'm about 2/3 of the way through). It would be interesting to hear from someone closer to this whether she's being fairly accurate. |
Dp, but know two of the ,sin characters well, as in decades. Boook definitely portrays a side I haven’t seen, but some of her description of them rings true. |
NP, I am also reading it now! On page 153 now. I'm enjoying it. I don't usually read non-fiction. |
| I think there are 2 or 3 prior threads about Careless People already, fwiw. |
|
I just finished it. Riveting! I had already lost all
respect for Zuckerberg but the stories of his obliviousness and selfishness really drove it home. Letting employees rot in prison!! |
