I actually think it's a good effort to try for a shorter CR - long enough for Trump to demonstrate that he isn't going to abide by the spending authorizations and therefore they should not allow him even more time to keep on as he is. A shorter CR and forcing potentially legitimate discussions and compromises to reach a legitimate budget.

If they don't hold the legal framework together, there's no other way to stop this trainwreck.

The dems are in a no-win situation, mainly because the Republicans control all the messaging.
