My DC does this (older elementary school). No problems. |
Yes, our DC is only 2nd grade. We might try 3rd when they are tall enough to be seen over a car hood. |
My son is in MS now but when he attended APS McKinley elementary school, many schools guaranteed extended day if parents signed up before prior summer or some imposed deadline. And if there were new kids on wait list when school began, Mckinley (at least) tried to hire more staff to increase capacity.
It was easier for APS to plan for demand back in the day when most working parents could not work from home. |
There is no more guarantee, but that is what we had for our older kids, too and part of why we moved to Arlington |
All of your options are going to be more expensive than extended day. But that's what you have to do, right? You might just be able to patch together care between various options, likely including a babysitter of some sort. |
You can go talk to those running extended day. Maybe someone else wants to drop out to save money because they've been DOGEd. |
Maybe ask on your neighborhood listserv if there is a parent who picks up (drive or walk) who would be willing to take your kid home? |
You’d be better off getting your fees reduced than giving up your spot. Some schools have waitlists that are very long. |
