| DD's team was beaten badly by Langley this season, and they are a great team. It's a fact that everyone can agree on. I don't understand why the fans are so obnoxious though, students were even trying to provoke our opposing team parents. I mean, you're winning, why do you need to be like this? |
Langley has two very good freshmen. They’ll get recruited by privates, though, so we’ll see if they stick around. Madison girls won four straight state championships because their best players stuck around through graduation (and they picked up a key player a few years ago from Langley). But the gap between the private and public programs has widened in recent years, so players looking to get recruited may feel some pressure to transfer. Marshall had an excellent freshman a few years ago and she left for Bullis. |
The boorish behavior of Langley students and parents has long been an issue. Other schools don’t like to play them because they make others feel so unwelcome. But the girls team was indeed very good this year, and the coach is well respected. |
We went to many Langley girls games this year (no rooting interest . . . our elementary school daughter just loves basketball) and did not see any of this. Most of the games were lightly attended. Fans cheered and complained sometimes about calls, but nothing different from other games we've been to. Certainly nothing directed at the opposing team or its fans. |
Well, they've been bounced out of the state tournament so both the players and the parents have a year to think about whether things could have been different had the team kept its composure and displayed better sportsmanship against WestPo ("apple doesn't fall far...."). |
Interesting input, considering West Po has the most obnoxious players, fans, and staff (boys and girls) in maybe all of Northern Virginia... |
Hardly. But Langley was lucky it lost to West Po because Osbourn Park destoyed West Po 77-39 tonight and would have wiped the floor with Langley as well. Two of West Po's players, including one starter, were out, but it wouldn't have made up the difference. |
