Do students turn down TJ offers of admittance?

Anonymous
Despite all these recent admission manipulations, offers ultimately return to the waitlist pool and overwhelmingly go to students from the top four FCPS middle schools. Has FCPS been asked why applicants from its lower-ranked middle schools reject their TJ offers?

Remember: TJ students come from 5 jurisdictions. There are also a handful from those jurisdictions who were homeschooled or went to private school.

2/3rd are from FCPS, rest from other four.
Less than 5% are private/homescool

Probably not, what matters is that they were offered. Would you prefer kids accepted and then withdrew?

Good on the kids for figuring out that TJ wasn’t a good fit for them.

A post in the FCPS board lists 112 Fs for students at TJ. Doesn’t say what year kids getting the grades or what classes, but agree most wouldn’t want you send a kid to a school if wasn’t going to be great for them. For others, need to try it to find out because may are haven’t been pushed yet to even know.

Just anecdotally, base schools that have a high recidivism rate (kids returning to base school) see higher rates of offer rejection

True.

It is also a really long drive each way to Loudoun every day.

Because the community learns.

Yes, things are so much better now since they cracked down on the cheating and eliminated the test buying.

For some parents, the acceptance was the goal, not actually going to TJ.

Some top students at our local school went to Academies of Loudoun instead.

Others realized TJ would be too hard for them and rejected.
