Yes, but this is the soccer forum and for men’s soccer, most men who enter are not picked up. |
| Even D2 teams have a lot of foreign students on their rosters. |
Yes. It’s changing the face of college soccer. |
How would you know? Only coaches and administrators can see the portal |
In the past couple of yeas a tremendous amount of European players have been picked up by D2 and lower-mid level D1 programs. Both portal and foreign players are a significant factor if that's your target area for playing soccer. Does not seem to be happening much with P4 and Mountain West Conference Schools though. For those schools it's really the portal players. |
I'm referring to the women's side |
| The transfer portal has been around since day one . I think you are getting confused with the "5th year COVID players" and a new normal. Last year plus a little more, was a heavy transfer portal season because of all the 5th year girls exploring new teams, masters degrees etc. This year recruiting should be back on track as pre 2024. |
Since day one of what? The NCAA's existence? I don't think the internet was even a thing then. |
| You could always transfer but sometimes had to sit out. Transfer rules have changed and technology made it easier. |
Yep. NCAA sport that is brand new for women. |
It has been around, but in the men’s side (I know little about the women’s), the limitations on when and how many times you could transfer limited use. The changing of those rules has significantly changed recruiting at the D1/D2 levels and I do not think it’s going back. Plus, NIL is also changing things on the men’s side, and that impacts the portal. |
NIL is not impacting the women's side very much at all. |
The massive change was the removal of the requirement to sit out year after transferring. |
